Love this wedding on Style Me Pretty! →
Such a fun idea to ask questions of the guests at each table, and way to incorporate succulents in such a beautiful way. Another inspirational wedding!
Added about 40 new plates, tea cups, silver, and bowls to the collection this weekend! Goodwill has seriously been the best place to dig. Only a few more to go!
With some of the plates I picked over the weekend, I used candlesticks and epoxy to make another cake stand for the collection! Love the colors.
Just bought 100 paper lanterns of assorted colors and sizes. Going for this vibe! Want to keep it fun and playful :)
Keep it green! And be creatively conscious!! →
Trying to plan a wedding, trying to keep it simple (in light of everyone else’s advice!) AND trying to keep it as green as possible has been a real trial. Luckily I love doing this, no matter how stressful, and I find it fun collecting old things to repurpose. Here are some great tips for keeping your wedding as green as possible.
1. Start with your rings. Use recycled metals, conflict-free stones, and conscientious jewelers! Work with individual artisans to keep things “local”
2. Think about your venue - utilize the great outdoors as much as possible! It’s free decor! Use places with “green” attributes, and try to find a place that can host the ceremony too (not something we were able to do, but a very good idea)
3. Try to buy your dress pre-owned (c’mon, the woman wore it once for 4 hours then got it professionally cleaned, and YOU get to save hundreds of dollars and still look gorgeous). IF you need to buy, plan on re-selling or donating to charity after (like I’m doing!) Or at the very least, buy a dress with organic materials. Check out Etsy for some great options.
4. Think vintage! For everything from plates to glassware, centerpieces, vases, etc try to find things at flea markets, antique stores, and yard sales that you can use in your wedding. Add some flowers to those “old” mason jars and they’ll be gorgeous!
5. Try to give favors that can be re-used (or eaten!) like preserves, pickles, infused vodkas! potted plants, donate to charity. Be creative, and keep it personal!
6. Think local local LOCAL! Food, beverages etc can probably be sourced from local farms in the area and many caterers (due to the increasing trend towards “local/organic”) have this option for brides. We’re working with a caterer in Litchfield, CT who will be using local meat, scallops, veggies, fruits, and dairy from CT-based farms. Chances are this reduces the carbon footprint of your meal getting from producer to table AND reduces your potential intake of pesticides. Yum…. Also, use local beer and wine. I BET wherever you live, whoever you are, there are local breweries and wineries with delicious beverages that you can showcase at your wedding. Put away that Bud and grab an ice cold microbrew.
8. FLOWERS - including flowers in your wedding is probably the best way to be environmentally UN-friendly, but come on, flowers are SPECTACULAR. To increase the Green, try to use in-season, local flowers from your vendor, and try to select a florist that can do this! Every flower on your table has been cut and will be thrown out within 24 hours (kind of a waste!). Offset this by adding natural touches like driftwood, wood slices, moss, terrariums, succulents, potted plants, trees, grasses, and give your reception venue an outdoor punch! I swear it will feel extremely romantic, probably save a few bucks, and you can reuse EVERYTHING.
